See your shifts in your own calendar¶
If your Profile page shows a Shift calendar card, your organisation offers this. If you do not see the card, it is not available for your organisation, and you can use My shifts instead.
A calendar link lets you see your own shifts in Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook, alongside the rest of your life. It is a private link that your calendar app checks for updates.
Create your link¶
- Open your profile, then Preferences, and find Shift calendar.
- Choose Create calendar link.
- The portal shows Your calendar link once. Choose Copy link, or Open in calendar app.
- Add it to your calendar:
- Google Calendar, on a computer: Settings, Add calendar, From URL, then paste the link.
- Apple Calendar: File, New Calendar Subscription, then paste the link.
- Outlook: Add calendar, Subscribe from web, then paste the link.
- Choose Done.
You only see the link once
For your security the link cannot be shown again. If you lose it, create a new one.
What the calendar shows¶
Only your own shifts for that organisation, with the date, time and shift type. Nothing else about the shift is in the link. In your calendar app the shifts carry your organisation's roster name, so if you work with more than one organisation you can tell the calendars apart. The Shift calendar card tells you the name that is used.
Anyone who has your link can see these shift details, so keep it to yourself.
Changes can take a while to show¶
Your calendar app decides when to refresh, not Carers Portal. Google Calendar can take up to a day to show a change. Apple and Outlook are usually quicker, but not instant.
Because of this, your calendar is not the alert for a change. If your organisation also sends shift emails, treat the email as the alert (see Shift emails), and check My shifts for anything last-minute.
When a shift is cancelled it stays in your calendar, marked cancelled, for 30 days.
Create a new link, or turn it off¶
On the Shift calendar card:
- Create new link gives you a fresh link. Your current link stops working straight away, and calendars using it stop updating until you add the new one.
- Turn off link stops the link working straight away. You can create a new one at any time.
In both cases, remove the old subscription in your calendar app to clear its events.
The link also stops working if your access to the organisation is removed or suspended.
