Support more than one person¶
If you support more than one participant — for example as a family member, a support worker or a coordinator — you can see each person's records with one sign-in. Each participant's records stay completely separate; you choose whose records you are working in, and you can switch at any time.
You are added the usual way: the administrator of that participant's records invites the email address you already sign in with. You do not need a second account.
Choosing who you are supporting when you sign in¶
If you support more than one person, the portal asks Who are you supporting today? after you sign in. Each person is listed with your role for them — you might be an Admin for one participant and a User for another.
Choose the person whose records you want to work in. Nothing from anyone's records is shown until you do.
Skip the question next time
Tick Always open this person's records when I sign in before choosing, and the portal will open their records straight away from then on. You can change this later — see Choose whose records open first.
If you support only one person, you are never asked — you go straight in, exactly as before.
Switching to someone else¶
The name of the person whose records you are in is always shown under the Carers Portal logo.
To switch:
- At the top of the screen, find Supporting.
- Pick the person from the list.
- Choose Switch.
The portal reloads everything for that person and takes you to their home screen. What you can see and do follows your role for that person.
Finish what you are doing first
Switching closes whatever you had open. Save a shift note or record before you switch — anything unsaved is lost.
Supporting only appears if you support more than one person. It appears once the home screen has finished loading.
Choose whose records open first¶
- Choose Profile, then the Preferences tab.
- Under People you support, open Open when I sign in.
- Pick a person — or Ask me each time to be asked whenever you sign in.
This applies on every device you sign in on. If your access to that person's records is later removed, the portal simply goes back to asking.
Several tabs or devices¶
Each browser tab remembers whose records it is in, so you can keep one person's records open in one tab and another person's in a second tab. Check the name under the logo before you add a record.
- Refreshing a tab keeps you with the same person.
- Opening a new tab opens the person you chose under Open when I sign in, or asks if you have not chosen.
- Signing out forgets your choices on that device; the next time you sign in you get your chosen person, or the question again.
Something not right?¶
- Someone is missing from the list. Your access to their records may not have been set up, or may have been removed. Ask the administrator for that person's records — see Access is pending?.
- You expected to go straight in but were asked. The person you chose may no longer be available to you. Choose again in Profile → Preferences.
- Anything else: report a problem. Never include a participant's details.
